Job Title: Accountant


Duration: 1-year contract


Location: Phoenix, Arizona


 


 


This position will perform accounting analyses, prepare and process funding requests for identified projects. Recommend solutions and provide feedback to project managers on requests including, accuracy of data submitted, schedule for request completion and follow-up after processing to ensure data is correct. This position will understand the project life cycle throughout the Arizona Department of Transportation. Ensure that Federal and State requirements relative to project funding are met with Arizona Department of Transportation's current financial systems. Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, reconciling and making necessary adjustments as they relate to project funding. Release unspent obligations of federal and/or state funds. Pre-audit project phases to ensure closure readiness when a project is completed. Provide guidance to other functional areas in regards to Arizona Financial Information System and Fiscal Management Information System. Generate reports in Access, Excel, Google Sheet and perform other duties as assigned including documenting procedures and improving processes and ensuring sustainability.


 


The position will possess strong analytical skills in researching and resolving financial and technical data issues. High attention to detail. Good written and verbal communication. Analyze and interpret contract and financial data. Critical thinking. Ability to work independently and as a team. Experience with working in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Google Suites.


 


Minimum of 2 years of auditing and/or accounting experience. Knowledge of Federal and State laws, rules, regulations and policies related to budgets.


 


Governmental Accounting Experience. The ideal candidate will have two years of experience in transportation project finance. Experience working with Federal Funding, regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of project planning, programming and scheduling. Knowledge of capital budgeting concepts and principles.


 


Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
